Marta has a PhD in Immunology and almost two decades of experience in Flow Cytometry from several European institutions and multiple international projects. Before becoming Flow Cytometry Head at the IGC, Marta has worked as a researcher for 15 years, in Portugal and abroad; has been an Assistant Professor in the Medical School of University of Lisbon; and has also worked in industry, heading the R&D department of a multinational pharmaceutical company. She is author of many scientific publications and co-inventor of a patent that was on the origin of an award-winning entrepreneurship project and the foundation of a start-up.

Probably influenced by the countless crime and mystery books she reads, Marta loves to solve problems and create innovative solutions. That is why she is thrilled to help you designing the appropriate flow cytometry approach for your biological question or finding ways of overcoming the obstacles you may find in your experiments. Ana has a PhD in Biochemistry (ITQB and John Innes Institute, UK) on the molecular basis of plant-pathogen interactions. She worked as a researcher during several years on different projects, namely, on the differential gene expression of the response of Pinus pinaster to mineral stress (ITQB, UNL), on molecular aspects of cystic fibrosis pathology (FCUL and Pittsburgh University, USA), and finally on the characterization of vacuolar transporters from grape berries (ITQB, University of Zurich, Switzerland and University of Bari, Italy). During these years, Ana published in peer-reviewed journals. Besides research, Ana worked as lecturer of Biochemistry (Universidade Lusófona, Lisboa) and Biochemistry and Developmental Biology in ISEIT (Instituto Piaget, Almada). Finally, in 2011, she started to work in the Antibody Facility at IGC.

Ana loves to have a good laugh and at the same time the stillness in contact with nature. She respects nature as if it were her own child. Ana likes music, particularly smooth jazz and classical music. She loves reading themes related to the brain and mind, as well as to different religions of the world.
