Reichert Knifemaker

The Reichert Knifemaker can make glass knives for trimming and sectioning resin or ice embedded specimens.

This equipment scores a strip of glass into straight squares using a balance method. Once the square is made you can score it again in the Knifemaker to create two sharpe-edge glass knives. By controlling the breaking of the glass, it is possible to create optimal knives not only for thin sections but also for ultrathin and frozen sections.

In order to book this equipment, you can do it here. Please contact one of the technicians in the IGC Electron Microscopy Facility for appropriate training.
