Reichert Knifemaker

  • The Reichert Knifemaker can make glass knives for trimming and sectioning resin or ice embedded electron microscopy specimens.

This equipment scores and ultimately breaks a strip of glass into straight squares using a balance method. Once the square is made you can score the square again in the Knifemaker to create two sharpe-edge triangular glass knives. By controlling the breaking of the glass, it is possible to create optimal knives not only for thin sections but also for ultrathin and frozen sections.

In order to book this equipment, you can do it here. Please contact one of the technicians in the IGC Electron Microscopy Facility for appropriate training.
